LIFETIME OF LEARNING

(4 mins read)

When young people graduate from school they think that their EDUCATION is finally over. But they are about to start a lifetime of LEARNING.

CURRENT LEARNING

The current education system will provide people with fact-based knowledge and from their first day of professional career they need to gain and develop many skills which are not thought at school. We could say that it was expected, however there is another element which is a bit more worrying. Our education system is a bit outdated. It was developed many years ago when the Industrial Revolution changed the way we worked and all companies required a lot of qualified workers as engineers, accountants, marketers, etc.

Technology disrupted a learning process to a large extent. ChatGPT has started an education revolution. Within seconds we get answers to our questions, algorithms generate text, translate, check grammar and spelling, or run mathematic calculations. There is no need to know all the facts by heart. We need to have access to the Internet and Google. Search engines will provide us with answers to our questions in seconds. The majority of the global population has access to the Internet with mobile phones or computers and there is no need to spend years in class to learn geography, history, chemistry. It’s shocking for many of us but it’s truth.

FUTURE OF LEARNING

In the future, our children and grandchildren will be immersed in a hybrid education system that seamlessly blends the best of traditional schooling with cutting-edge personalized learning. Physical schools and universities will remain integral, offering in-person activities that foster social interaction and community building. In these institutions, in-class teaching will be synchronized, ensuring that all students receive a standardized curriculum. Simultaneously, outside the walls of these educational institutions, learning will take on a new form. It will be a dynamic and de-synchronized experience, uniquely tailored to each individual’s knowledge level, learning style, teaching preferences, and progress. This shift will empower learners to explore subjects at their own pace, fostering a deeper understanding and passion for knowledge acquisition. As technology continues to evolve, this hybrid model promises to create a more adaptable and engaging learning environment, preparing the next generation for a world where lifelong learning is the norm.

Artificial intelligence will support both students and educators. AI-driven tutors can provide instant feedback, and AI systems can help teachers with administrative tasks like grading and lesson planning.

The content of learning will be adjusted as well. Students will be using different learning techniques or materials like videos, podcasts, seminars, online or offline education materials. Education will be focused less on knowledge and more on specific skills. In one of my previous blogs I described seven potential skills which will be critical to be successful in the future. There are the “7 C’s”:

  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Critical thinking
  • Creativity
  • Constructive feedback
  • Continues improvement
  • Change agility.

The future of learning will be revolutionised by A.I. as well. Algorithms will create student profiles, which will be reviewed by a teacher and finally shared with students. The student profiles will take individual learning styles and experience into consideration and based on this AI will propose most optimal learning plan. AI will be preparing homework and in some specific situation, like I.e. tests, will be checking it also. Technology based on face recognition and body language will check the attendance and will analyze a level of participation or understanding during a virtual lesson in a virtual class room based on mimics.

SO WHAT?

What is the key conclusion here… our current education system teaches us about everything which was required in an old paradigm world. For sure, the education system will adapt and will develop new learning processes with algorithms support, virtual technologies helping us to develop skills needed past the technology/information revolution. However, it will take time and now, if we wanted to be successful we need to take a full responsibility of the Lifetime of Learning.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO US?

We need to take some specific actions to continue learning. Continues learning means continues personal growth. There are many other learning opportunities which are available to each of us free:

Learning by doing!

Learning by reading, watching or listening!

Learning by experimenting!

Learning by networking!

Learning by failing!

Learning by using ChatGPT!

Learning by coding!

UNLEARNING

However, before we start learning new stuff, we need to initiate a process of unlearning. Unlearning is an intentional effort to letting go of previously acquired beliefs, knowledge, or habits that may no longer be needed. It’s a process of challenging our own assumptions, allowing room for new and innovative concepts or perspectives. Unlearning can be a transformative experience which will accelerate our personal growth, open our minds, and take our thinking and doing to new, unknown areas of possibilities. Remember, that unlearning is uncomfortable because it pushes us out from our comfort zone, current paradigm.

PERSONALISED DEVELOPMENT PLANNING

Do you have a personal development plan? Do you know what do you want to achieve in your life? Are you focusing on 4 critical areas:

  1. Health
  2. Personal
  3. Professional
  4. Wealth

Do you know EXACTLY what do you want to achieve in each area mentioned above?

If you do, this is great. Keep executing, keep growing!

If you do not, I would encourage you to reflect on this as soon as possible. Below is the link to an article providing you with more information about building your development plan.

Once you build your development plan, you have to allocate 30 mins every day focused on your continues learning. You have to implement this new habit and stick to this. This simple daily HABIT will have a significant, positive impact on your development in a long term.

Do not stop learning, do not stop growing!
