Is it time for your next career adventure?
Throughout our lives, we face a sequence of significant decisions that shape both our personal and professional paths. We have to make choices in relation to education, family, homeownership, retirement, career paths, leadership roles, entrepreneurship, etc. Each of these decisions carries its unique set of consequences, positive or negative, easy or challenging, inspirational or frustrating.
During our lives, few decisions carry as much weight as the choice to change jobs. Job satisfaction or fulfillment at work means that we are looking forward to commuting to work with a coffee in our hands on Monday morning after a great weekend with family and friends. On the other hand, if there is no recognition or appreciation at work, if the time spent in the office drains our positive energy and offers negativity or toxicity, maybe it’s time to explore our next career adventure.
First, we need to know if we are ready for our NEXT CAREER ADVENTURE or if it’s better if we stay where we are for a bit longer. Below, there are five questions. Read them carefully, one by one, reflect, and answer honestly. These are closed questions, and the answers should be “YES” or “NO”.
- Are you satisfied with the work, tasks, and challenges you are dealing with?
- Does your current job fit your long-term career plan?
- Are you satisfied with your work-life harmony?
- Did you gain any new skills or capabilities during the last 12 months?
- Do you have a feeling that you are appreciated at work?

If you have five “YES’s” on a piece of paper, we could assume that you are happy at work, and there is no need to change anything as of now.
If there are three or four “YES’s” and one or two “NO’s,” you may think about some small changes or adjustments; however, there is no need to look for a new professional challenge.
However, if there are none, one, or two “YES’s” and all or a majority of “NO’s,” it’s definitely a signal that there is a need to take action.

Now, when the decision has been made, we need to consider a couple of elements in relation to HOW.
- Have you considered potential career opportunities within your current organisation?
- Have you researched the external job market to find the best much with your skills and experience?
- Have you considered the potential benefits and drawbacks of working for a corporation versus a smaller company?
- Have you sought advice or mentorship on your career plans from other people?
- Have you evaluated the potential impact of a job change on your life-work harmony?
- Are you open to relocating if it enhances your career prospects?
- Have you assessed your current financial situation and created a budget to prepare for potential job transition?

Remember that changing jobs is a significant step, and it’s absolutely normal to feel excited and unsure. There is also no one-size-fits-all approach. Each situation is different, and it requires careful consideration of your current personal and professional situation and long-term career goals. Changing jobs can be stressful and challenging; however, it can also be a catalyst for growth, fulfillment, and joy.
