In our fast-paced work environments, it’s easy to confuse being busy with being productive. We focus too much on being busy and we don’t spend enough time thinking about how we could be productive.
First, we need to understand what BUSYNESS is. It’s constant activity, back-to-back meetings, multiple calls, or project work. On the other hand, PRODUCTIVITY is meaningful and controlled progress towards goals and value creation.
When people are busy, they manage many tasks or projects. Productive people focus on impactful work. Busy people measure results differently than productive people. They focus on time spent. Productive people measure outcomes achieved. When people experience busyness, their energy is often drained. Productive people are energized by the work they are doing.
Are you just busy, or truly productive?
