Last week, a friend told me, “I asked AI to write my report, but it wasn’t great.”
I asked, “Okay… but how did you ask?”
He replied, “I provided AI with two pages of data, the title, who will receive the report, and what expected outcomes are. AI was fast, it took the machine only 1 minute to generate the report, but it wasn’t great.”
When he finished the sentence, he looked at me and I knew it clicked for him — using AI well isn’t just about asking. It’s about how you engage with AI.
AI is a tool — but like any tool, how you use it makes all the difference. Here’s a simple, easy-to-remember, and practical framework: ASK → ENGAGE → CO-CREATE.
ASK: You ask AI a question and take the reply as it is. It’s quick, useful for collecting facts or looking for inspiration.
ENGAGE: You ask a question, then dig deeper. Challenge answers generated by AI, ask for alternatives, eliminate some solutions and focus more on few. You will get more precise and richer insights.
CO-CREATE: It’s an Human/AI engagement. See AI as a partner, not a box which will answer your questions. First, spend quality time defining the problem you are trying to solve, then build the right prompt. Share all data you have, broader context, expectations, success metrics, etc. Don’t engage with one AI only. Use multiple tools or models, compare answers, choose the most efficient part. You are the expert and at the end you decide.
The bigger the decision → the more “CO-CREATE” your AI use should be.
How are you using AI today — ASKING, ENGAGING, or CO-CREATING?
